About Our Ballet Program

Keystone Ballet Academy offers a comprehensive training program in classical ballet unique to the Greater Hazleton Area. Beginner students in Level A will develop a  fundamental technique vocabulary while training the body to build strength, flexibility, coordination and musicality.

Students on a path to study pointe are required to take classes 2X a week in Level A1, A2 and B1. Students ages 11 – adult can be considered for pointe.

Our facility studios are equipped with high-quality professional dance flooring to minimize slipping and provide a cushion for jumping. Mirrors are made of thin Mylar sheets and weigh only 12 pounds each. Barres are aluminum and easy to sterilize.

Beginner levels for children are offered to student ages 8 – 12. Beginner levels for teens and adults are offered to students 12 – adult. At the intermediate levels, all ages are combined. Progress is based on ability, attendance, and demonstrating understanding of technique foundations.

Level A1
Beginner Ballet Level 1 - Ages 8-11

Beginner ballet classes for ages 8 to 11. Students are introduced to the fundamental principles of classical ballet technique. Students learn proper body alignment along with foot, leg and arm positions. They begin to develop turn-out along with  ballet terminology movements. Classes include floor strengthening, barre work, center exercises and moving across the floor.  Suitable for dancers with little to no prior ballet, the class lays down the foundation needed to successfully study the art of ballet.

Class Length: 60 min

Level A2
Beginner Ballet Level 2 - Ages 9-12

The second level of beginner ballet continues to  build a strong foundation in both technique and vocabulary. Classes focus on combinations to develop memorizing movements and patterns. Spatial awareness is developed within the body and well as in relation to other dancers and the room. Additionally, these classes begin to incorporate the elements of musicality and artistry to keep the dancers engaged as they drill basic movements and are challenged with new steps.

Class Length: 75 min

The introduction of new movements is taught in a progressive manner and practiced as drills.

Class Length: 90 min

Level B2
Intermediate Ballet Level 2 - Ages 11-Adult

Intermediate Ballet Level 2 continues working on the steps taught in Intermediate 1 and combining them into complex combinations with more coordination of the head, arm and body. Students on track for pointe that passed a “Pointe Readiness Test”  will begin the year with pre-pointe and continue in the Spring with their first pair of pointe shoes .
